This 9-round (1 hr + 30 increment) open tournament has become an electrifying battleground for 2 International Masters, 2 AGM, 1 AFM, seasoned players, and ambitious newcomers alike.
As we enter the fourth round, two formidable players have emerged at the top of the leaderboard: IM Rico Mascarinas and IM Torben Sorensen, both with an unblemished score of 3/3, together with other 7 players including AGM Venancio Loyola Jr, AGM Mark Mangubat and others. Their performances have been nothing short of spectacular, showcasing exceptional chess prowess and strategic depth.
IM Rico Mascarinas: A local favorite, Mascarinas has been a constant presence in the chess circuit. Known for his aggressive, tactical play, his remarkable ability to control the board and anticipate his opponents' moves has earned him well-deserved victories in the first three rounds.
