Jose Puyo wins the 3rd GMG Chess Cup Blitz Tournament 2025
In a dramatic conclusion marked by competitive tension, Jose Puyo emerged victorious among the 28 players at the 3rd GMG Chess Cup Blitz Tournament 2025 held on last April 5, 2025 at GMG Chess Club, Binan, Laguna, overcoming a rare and challenging triple tie situation.
Jose demonstrated exceptional blitz skill and tactical brilliance throughout the tournament, finishing with an impressive score of 5/6 points together with Roberto Biron and Jefte Crebillo, each equally hungry for triumph. However, it was Jose’s superior buchholz with 21 and 5 wins set him apart.

From the very start, Jose showcased exceptional tactical acumen and deep concentration, setting the tone with decisive victories in the first 2 rounds against John Vincent Book and Khent Darylle Delig. Each match saw his navigating complex positions and employing a mix of aggressive and defensive tactics and outmaneuver his opponents.
In round 3 he lost to veteran Jefte Crebillo but he swiped off all his opponents in the 4th-6th rounds against Roy Manaloto, rapid champion Remegio Galenzoga and rapid 6th place John Laurence Donguines getting 5/6 points, winning the title via most number of wins and buchholz.

The tournament atmosphere where some watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.

Now, Binan is bostering chess throughtout Laguna laso in the Philippines, through the effort of GMG Chess founder, Binan Chess Association and its members.
