Reynaldo Quinones wins The 4th JSUPT Ericley Loiuse D. Lazaro Warden's Open Chess Tournament 2024
Reynaldo Quinones displayed remarkable skill and experience by clinching the championship at the 4th JSUPT Ericley Louise D. Lazaro Warden's Open Chess Tournament 2024 last December 21, 2024 at Damosa Market Basket, Davao City. With an impressive score of 6.5/7, Quinones not only dominated but also finished a full point ahead of the runner-up Richard Togonon in a field teeming with young, formidable chess talents.
The tournament was fiercely competitive, reflecting a significant spectrum of chess prowess. Despite the significant presence of youthful contenders who brought vibrant energy and novel strategies to the board, Quinones showcased that experience and wisdom in chess can often outmaneuver youthful vigor.

A very nice atmosphere where some watching each move as strategies unfolded on the board. This event not only highlighted the competitive spirit of chess but also fostered a sense of community among players and fans alike.
The journey began to heat up in Round 3 where the 9th rank Quinones faced the 6th seed contender Gino Angelo Asuncion he was playing meticulously to secure victory. Next in round 4 with NM Macacuna Macala. This match was another pivotal moment and clinch another vital win. Continuing their unassailable streak, in Round 5 featured the strong competitor Eduardo Tare II. Once again, Quinones exhibited remarkable focus where his calculated risks paid off. In Round 6, the formidable opponent, the 2nd seed Reynaldo Gempero Jr. posed a significant hurdle. Yet, Quinones’s strategic depth and resilience shone through, allowing them to overcome the opposition, maintaining the perfect streak at 6/6. And lastly draw with John Kenneth Tabada in the final round to secure the title.
