The PSC - NCFP Women's Selection Chess Championship Grand Finals concluded with a thrilling display of chess mastery, where WFM Cherry Ann Mejia emerged victorious. With exceptional strategic insight and determination, Mejia managed to secure one-point lead over her competitors.
Starting the tournament strong with 2.5/3 points in our previos article, Mejia made a significant impact with her brilliant three-game winning streak in round 6-8, making her the virtual champion after 8-rounds. Overcoming fierce competition, she managed to outpace her rivals and finished with an impressive score of 7/9 points.

Round 6

In the first diagram above, WFM Mejia played 12. Bxd7+!, the only way to win, and game continued in the next diagram and played the fascinating 15. c6 and converted to win
In Round 7, In the diagram below WFM Mejia played the nice move 37...Ba4!, (Bb5 is also nice) 38. Rxa3 bxa3 (with idea of Be8-Bf7-a2) winning a piece.

In Round 8, in the diagram below, white has overwhelming position, but WFM Mejia played a nice tactical move 32. Rfxf7! and later on converted to win.
